Jump Jam

This album is powered by BubbleShare - Add to my blog

Every morning our whole school participates in aerobics which we do to a series of songs, this is called JUMP JAM. Some of the songs we do are "I'm a believer", "In the Navy" and we are learning "Don't stop moving". Our class learnt the moves from a video with very helpful instructions and then we taught the rest of the school. All of the classes line up on the court with some senior students up front showing how to do it. Jump Jam goes for 15 minutes a day on Mondays - Thursdays and afterwards we make sure we do some stretches. Everyone looks forward to this morning activity.

Totara Team Electives

On Friday the Totara Team started an electives programme. Electives is when some parents come in to take a group of children for activites such as cooking, paper crafts, flax weaving, computers and many more. The programme goes for three weeks. At the end of the three weeks you get to take what you have made home. In some of the activites that you can do, like cooking, you get to take home and eat what you have made every week.

In this photo a teacher is taking a paper crafts group. In paper crafts we are making papier mache piggy banks. At the moment we are doing the body with paper and glue over the top of a balloon. In the second week we will put the legs ,tail and snout on and in the last week we will paint the piggy banks with different designs.

Buddy Reading

Yesterday we had buddy reading with Room 4.
This happens every Wednesday afternoon at 1:30pm.

Miss Millward and Mrs Behague assigned us all a partner, who we read to our favourite books to. Room 4 students also read to us. They read us their daily group books, and we help them if they're stuck. Buddy reading is done in the library so that we can easily meet each other after the lunch break.

Egypt: Beyond the Tomb

On Wednesday 18th July 2007 Room 10 visited Auckland Museum to explore the Egyptian exhibition.
When we arrived at the museum we got into 11 groups and we had 45 minutes to look at all the cool stuff around the museum. While we were looking around we had questions to answer about the different areas like the reptiles and volcanoes. There was a really awesome volcano house that showed what it would be like in an eruption. Just before 12:00pm we went and had lunch and a little play before going to the main exhibition. The exhibition had a real Egyptian mummy named Keku. We even went into the learning centre at the museum and touched real ancient Egyptian artifacts. Here is a fact I learnt: if a child was good they would be given 1 small cup of wheat and they could take it to the market and trade it for a gift. We even got to pretend to do this!
When we got back to school we were really tired but we had an amazing trip!
